Information

Description Sylvain Langoureau Premier Cru

St-Aubin is located adjacent to the world-famous Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet appellations. This name may be less well known than its famous neighbours, but there are more and more calls among connoisseurs to extend the Golden Triangle of the Côte de Beaune (Chassagne, Puligny and Meursault) with St-Aubin as the fourth component. Amazingly beautiful burgundies are made here, for (still) relatively modest prices. No less than two thirds of the vineyards enjoy premier cru status.

Sylvain Langoureau may be a small producer (8 hectares is not much even for Burgundy standards), but his plots are located in a number of these premier crus. Sylvain is committed to expressing the typical characters of the various crus. Because he places the center of gravity of his work in the vineyards (where he often works according to biodynamic principles) and works with restraint in the cellar, he succeeds wonderfully.

The premier cru Bas de Vermarain à l'Est is located in the northwestern tip of the Saint-Aubin valley, just west of the village of Gamay (where Sylvain is located). The vineyard is on a fairly steep slope. Because this slope is oriented to the south and the vineyard is located in a cove, the grapes get the sun all day and can therefore ripen nicely. The westerly wind provides the necessary cooling. Although Bas de Vermarain à l'Est is still relatively unknown even among wine journalists, people are unanimous about the very interesting results that Sylvain has achieved.

Drink this special white burgundy from about five years after the harvest, preferably with creamy dishes with fish, scallops, poultry or mushrooms.
