Tasting notes Rodero Ribera del Duero
Deep red Spanish wine aged in refined oak. Intense balanced taste with a spicy aroma and notes of ripe fruit. Tastes great with dishes from wild poultry and beef.
Description
The development of Ribera del Duero has been super fast. In 1982, the year in which the official designation of origin (DO) was granted, there were only nine wine producers. Now - more than thirty years later - almost 200!
The combination of high altitude vineyards in a warm climate with a large difference in day and night temperature (important for maintaining fresh acids and aromas of fresh fruit) and the beautiful local clone of the tempranillo (tinto del pais) are at the basis of high quality red wine.
A good example is this crianza from Carmelo Rodero. Before Carmelo made his own wine, he sold his grapes to the world-famous bodega Vega Sicilia. In the meantime, he and his daughter Beatriz, an oenologue graduated in Bordeaux, are one of the leading winemakers.
What is striking in the Carmelo Rodero wines is the high degree of sophistication and complexity. This is largely due to Beatriz, who introduced the 'Bordeaux' way of making wine and uses a lot of French oak for example.
The hand-picked harvest is processed in a new vinification cellar that would not look out of place at a French Grand Cru.
