Tasting note Cien y Pico
Full red in color, fresh and spicy in aroma with nuances of fresh red fruit, light herbs and spices. The taste is flexible and develops a fresh tannin in the fragrant aftertaste. Beautiful wine with many dishes, such as beef or lamb from the grill or spicy vegetable dishes.
Manchuela is located between La Mancha, Almansa and Jumilla. As one of the most recent protected designations of origin in Spain (the area has had the DO status since 2000), it is still little known. The high vineyards are at a height of 600 to 700 meters. As a result, it cools down strongly at night in the warm Spanish summer and the grapes retain freshness. You can taste it in this beautiful red wine made from the grape bobal. This variety is difficult to grow, but excels in high-altitude vineyards, because the growing season there is long enough for the tannins to mature properly. The condition is that the yield is kept low. That is the case with Cien y Pico, which means a hundred and something in the local dialect. The name originated when the seller, when looking for vineyards, answered the question of how old the sticks are. "A hundred years and something else", so! The low sticks (and vaso in Spanish) give fantastic quality. Thanks to the natural freshness of the ball and a maturation of 6 months in mainly 2nd and 3rd year oak casks, it is a wonderful accompaniment of grilled meat from the BBQ. A great new wine in our range, awaiting your discovery.
