Description
South Africa has a good reputation for fortified sweet wines. The Fairtrade domain Du Toitskloof, located in Breedekloof, is one of the big names when it comes to this wine style. Their Jerepigo is a real specialty and highly acclaimed.
Jerepigo is the South African name for very sweet dessert wine, in which the grape juice is strengthened to about 16% immediately at the beginning of the fermentation by adding alcohol. This white Jerepigo from Du Toitskloof is made from the muscat d'Alexandrie grape – also called cockspaw in South Africa.
The grapes are harvested late and therefore partly dried. It produces a very intense, fragrant and concentrated dessert wine, with notes of candied citrus fruit and honey. The perfect dessert wine with ice cream and cakes, or as a dessert on its own. Serve it well cold.
