2018 Caruso e Minini Terre Siciliane Tasari Catarratto

 

 

 

Sicilian, dry white wine made from the catarratto grape. Light yellow in color, fruity in scent with some pear and green apple in the aroma. The taste is fresh, balanced and ends with a juicy, aromatic aftertaste. Fine aperitif wine with snacks, also suitable with antipasti and light starters.

Cataratto may not be such a well-known grape, but it is one of the most widely planted white grapes in Italy. It is mainly located in Sicily and then again mainly on the west side of the island, in the province of Trapani. The cataratto grape is therefore in good hands at family winery Caruso e Minini. The domain is located in Trapani, on the extreme western tip of the island. It specializes in modern, but typically Sicilian wines. The Tasari cataratto is made as a simple (but certainly not mediocre) table wine. After the harvest, a cold skin soaking follows, after which the grapes are pressed. Both fermentation and maturation take place in steel tanks, so you can taste the pure expression of the grape. Drink this fruity, mild, drinkable white wine as it is, as an aperitif, but also with various antipasti or fish dishes.
