Grüner Veltiner (Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Trentino-Alto Adige, Germany, rest of the world)
Late-ripening grape variety that produces both neutral (mass production) and more characterful wines. The most important white grape for Austria. The vine can give high yields resulting in neutral wines with poor acidity. Made on quality, it is a very gastronomic wine. The flavor profile varies - depending on where it comes from - from light and fresh to aromatic and powerful. Sparkling versions and sweet wines also exist on a small scale.
Recognizable aromas: citrus (lemon, lime); fruit); green fruit (apple); exotic fruit (banana, apricot, peach, mango pineapple); spices (white pepper); earthy (mineral, smoky); blossom (honey, blossoms); wood (vanilla).
