Semillon ( Bordeaux, Australia, rest of the world)
Grape with high alcohol (sugar) and little acidity. In Bordeaux it is vinified together with the Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle to dry white and sweet Bordeaux (including the world famous Sauternes). In Australia as a varietal wine with a long storage capacity. The grape is virtually insensitive to diseases. The grape loses its character if the yields are too large. The thin skin is easily affected by the pourriture noble.
Recognizable aromas : citrus (lemon, lime); green fruit (gooseberry); plants (grass); ethereal (lanolin) ,; roasted (toast, nuts> Australia). Sweet wines: exotic fruits (peach, apricot, pineapple, mango); citrus
(orange, tangerine); spices (vanilla, nutmeg); blossom (honey); wood (vanilla).
