The vast majority of the production of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc is of excellent, but not very distinctive quality. This is because many producers still produce wine on a very large scale and are therefore not very focused on terroir expression. As different as can be, emerging talent Maurizio Garibaldi proves.
Convinced of the potential of Chile's unique terroirs and microclimates, this passionate, small-scale wine artist has set himself the goal of making pure, artisanal and unique wines, which clearly reflect their origin.
For example, Maurizio harvests the grapes for this Mako (meaning 'fresh' in the old local Tehuelche language) in Casablanca Valley, just 18.5 kilometers from the Pacific as the crow flies. This produces a beautiful, authentic cool climate wine, with an impressive aroma, energetic fresh acids and a slightly salty touch.
Because Maurizio ferments a small part of the wine in French oak and then rests it on the groin for 14 months, the Mako is also beautifully creamy and round in texture. Highly recommended!
