Colheita Port 2001 Quinta do Crasto

Vintage
2001 was characterized as very balanced. A winter with good reserves in the ground that ensured the proper development of the vines during the vegetative cycle. Warm days and cool nights resulted in a balanced wine with excellent potential and evolution.

The best port from the Duoro in Portugal

Quinta do Crasto is the domain of the Roquette family. Various port wines are made here, exclusively from the grapes of our own vineyards. The grapes are traditionally and gently pressed with their feet in so-called lagares, shallow concrete vats in which the fermentation also starts. This is done mechanically by less quality-conscious producers, but the traditional way is better and prevents the seeds and stems from releasing aggressive tannins. At some point wine alcohol is added which stops the fermentation and the remaining sugar in the grape determines the sweetness of the port. Crasto, one of the 'Douro boys', is considered one of the top producers and makes wonderful, clean and not so sweet ports. The particularly beautiful colheita is a matured port with a light color and a beautiful, refined taste. Harvest year 1998 had a hot summer, with cool evenings and nights. It has therefore entered the books as a year that produced extremely refined, elegant wines, with beautiful fresh acids and great storage potential.

Tawny port tasting note

Clear amber color, with elegant aromatic notes reminiscent of honey, fresh notes of orange peel and soft dried fruit. It evolves in the mouth tasting for a wine with an excellent volume and structure, composed of silky soft tannins. A wine with an extraordinary complexity that ends harmoniously and tenaciously.
