Tasting note Vino Gross
Fine fragrant dry white wine with a slight spiciness and fresh apple scents. The spicy flavor structure with fine acids ends aromatic and in balance.
Description
Most people know the furmint grape as the grape of the Hungarian Tokaj region. What many people don't know is that furmint (or šipon, as the grape is called locally) is also the traditional grape from Štajerska Slovenija. This area is located in Slovenia and borders on the Austrian Südsteiermark.
The Gross family, who have had a reputation for Austria's Styrian wines for many years, have crossed the border since 2005, and since then have also made fantastic wines in Slovenia.
The Furmint is a wonderful example of this. The vines are planted on steep terraces in the Gorca sub-region. The bottom consists of clayey marl, locally called opok. After the harvest, the grapes fermented in large wooden barrels. The wine ages for a year in wooden barrels and then for a half year in stainless steel tanks.
It results in a rich white wine with fruity, spicy and nutty notes, which makes it ideal at the table. To make the most of the Furmint, the best thing to do is to aerate it by opening it in advance or pouring it into a carafe.
