Tasting note Gross Jakobi
Fragrant dry white wine with notes of ripe apple and peach in the aroma and mild citrus notes. The juicy, fresh flavor structure is balanced and ends with a lingering finish.
Description
Quite a few different white (and even some red) grapes are planted in the Austrian region of Südsteiermark. Sauvignon Blanc is by far the most important representative of the region. This classic example is made by the Gross family, one of the pioneers of the area.
Jakobi is not only a very beautiful wine, he also has a very beautiful story. He takes his name from Jacobitag, a holiday dedicated to James, patron saint of the weather. The label shows an old farmers calendar (Mandl calendar). It used to predict the weather, moon phases and name days. This, on the other hand, describes how the harvest year was for the relevant vintage.
To give the Jakobi its pure, aromatic character, the wine is fermented exclusively in stainless steel tanks. Then the wine matures briefly on the yeasts. It gives a typical Sauvignon Blanc, with a typical Styrian character: pure, refined, with lively fresh acids and a little spiciness. It makes it a delicious aperitif wine, or a good accompaniment to salads or, for example, smoked fish.
