Wine has been produced in the Spanish region of Utiel-Requena for centuries, and the DO has also existed since 1957. However, the region has recently come into the spotlight for its modern, juicy, and largely organic wines.

While many wine regions in Spain are struggling increasingly with the heat and drought, Utiel-Requena benefits from favorable conditions. The climate is warm and continental, but the moderating influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea and the relatively high altitude of the vineyards ensure a perfect balance between ripe fruit and fresh acidity in the wines.

The same applies to this expressive, fruity Elvia Verdejo. Winemaker Luis Miguel Calleja grows the grapes organically. After the harvest, gentle pressing follows so that only the best juice is used. The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks and then ages for another two months on the lees for a little extra body.

In this way, Luis Miguel produces a strikingly fragrant, fruity, and flavorful organic white wine that is versatile and suitable for many occasions. Drink this fine Verdejo simply on its own, on a sunny terrace, or paired with, for example, calamari, shrimp, fried fish, or oven-baked chicken.
