Bodegas Castelo de Medina

It sounds a bit grim, the description of the Spanish wine region Rueda: an undulating plain at an altitude of 700 to 800 meters above sea level. Poor, stony, chalky soils. And endlessly long, freezing winters, followed by hot, dry summers with cool nights. But vines laugh at this. They thrive in such conditions. This also applies to Bodegas Castelo de Medina, a company that has been making wines here since 1996 and is located in the town with the beautiful name Villaverde de Medina.

The bodega is still relatively young, but is already one of the best producers in Rueda. Mainly white grapes are grown on 190 hectares (160 hectares), but also blue grapes for red wine and rosé. The beautiful company buildings are built in the traditional Spanish style, but of course contain the latest technical gadgets, so that the wines lack nothing. Castelo de Medina invests heavily in research and innovation in order to maintain its position as a forerunner.

The company is best known for its nice fresh white wine from the verdejo grape. This is a grape that is completely at home in Rueda and therefore does it optimally there, winemaker Sara Román emphasizes.
