Description
The forty-year-old Tawny from Quinta da Romaneira is an absolute must for every serious Port lover. What an incredibly beautiful, complex, and refined wine! It certainly does not come from just any house. Quinta da Romaneira is not only one of the largest houses in the Douro, but as one of the last single quintas, it also belongs to the elite of quality producers.
This is largely thanks to owner Christian Seely. He was previously responsible for the rebirth of the world-famous Quinta do Noval, and in 2004 he also became co-owner of the historic Quinta da Romaneira. The winery was completely renovated and now has an unwavering reputation for both port and still wine of the absolute highest level.
This Tawny is a blend of Ports with an average age of forty years. The Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca are harvested by hand in the steep hillside vineyards. For optimal extraction of color and tannins, the grapes are pressed by foot. Subsequently, the wines mature in 640-liter wooden barrels until they are used in the final bottling.
Although this Tawny pairs perfectly with, for example, a nut dessert or a board of aged hard cheeses, this particularly beautiful and complex Port actually deserves your full attention, without any form of distraction. An unforgettable wine experience!
