Description
Quinta da Romaneira is one of the Douro's historic Port houses. As early as 1872, Christie's auctioned two Romaneira Ports from 1861 and 1863: the first single Quinta Ports sold here. However, the house has by no means been relegated to history. With the arrival of Christian Seely in 2004, Romaneira catapulted into the 21st century in no time.
The vineyards were renovated, a state-of-the-art new cellar was built, and the vinification process was modernized. Today, Romaneira ranks among the Douro's elite wineries and enjoys a reputation for both still and fortified wines.
This refined Tawny is made from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barocca. The grapes are 100% sourced from Romaneira's own vineyards, a rarity in the Douro. These vineyards are all classified "A"—top terroir indeed!
After harvesting, the grapes are foot-trodden in stainless steel, temperature-controlled lagares. The wine then matures for another five years in large, used wooden barrels. This gives the Tawny added complexity and beautiful aging notes. Enjoy it with caramelized nut cake, for example, or aged hard cheeses. A magnificent Port!
