Description
The cool, northwestern Spanish region of Galicia guarantees crisp, fresh, fruity, and elegant wines. For example, this delicious Albariño from Rías Baixas.
It is made by Manuel Mendez, from the likeable family winery Pazo do Mar. This bodega has its vineyards located further inland, reducing the Atlantic influence and allowing the grapes to ripen just a little bit more than closer to the coast.
Manuel harvests his Albariño by hand. A portion of the grapes comes from the Rías Baixas sub-region of Condado do Tea. After the harvest, a short maceration of the skins follows, and the grapes are destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine ages on the lees for some time.
It produces a flavorful white wine with notes of citrus, apricot, white flowers, and a salty touch. Preferably drink it like the locals do: paired with anything fresh from the sea.
