Description
Louis Marie Teisserenc can certainly be called a visionary. As early as 1980, he was the first to plant Sauvignon vines in the Languedoc. A long process preceded this.
His good friend and winemaker at the renowned Domaine de Ladoucette in Pouilly-Fumé, Joël André, recommended specific clones also used in the Loire Valley. Now, after almost 40 years, François Teisserenc, Louis Marie's son, is producing an astonishingly high-quality wine from the now-old vines.
A limited portion of the grapes harvested at night ferment in small oak barrels (15%) and the remainder is macerated for 48 hours and then fermented in large stainless steel tanks.
It produces an exquisite, slightly oak-aged, dry white wine known as F Blanc. This is not only a tribute to the important role played by the Pouilly-Fumé winemaker in the late 1970s, but also a nod to the top cuvées from the renowned Loire Valley, which are made in a similar way. Naturally, this Languedoc-Sauvignon has more roundness due to the warmer weather in the south, but that is precisely what many lovers of this grape consider a plus.
