Description
Villota is the promising project of the Pérez Villota family. The family has four generations of experience in Rioja Alavesa, in the region considered the Côte d'Or of the Rioja region. After a long involvement in the renowned Viñedos del Contino, the family decided to branch out independently in 2013. In 2016, they bottled their first wines.
The white and red Selvanevada wines offer an excellent introduction to Villota's refined Riojas. Carmen and her team harvest the white grapes (predominantly Viura, supplemented with Garnacha Blanca, among others) in Villota's beautiful old vineyards nestled in a bend of the Ebro River.
Once harvested, the grapes are destemmed and macerated briefly for added aromatic intensity. After fermentation, the wine matures for six months in French oak barrels, with the yeasts regularly stirred for added flavor intensity.
The Selvanevada white is a seductive, juicy, and characterful white Rioja, with notes of apple, peach, and roasted nuts on the nose and a creamy, full-bodied, yet refreshing flavor. Try it with tapas, smoked fish, or paella.
Drinking at
A distinctive, oak-aged white wine with a wide range of gastronomic uses. It pairs perfectly with spicy dishes and appetizers, such as tapas, smoked fish, or chicken paella.
Tasting note
A refined white Rioja with a slightly mature aroma of yellow apple, peach, cedar, and toasted nuts. Full and smooth on the palate with ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and butter. The finish is lingering with toasted notes and delicate bitterness.
Shelf life
