Description
Travelers (voyageurs) are certainly the Montepulciano and Nielluccio grapes in François Collard's vineyards. Montepulciano is utterly Italian, Nielluccio is a Corsican specialty, and Sangiovese is the local variety. Their settlement in the French Costières de Nîmes region is due to the fact that climate change is palpable for François as well.
Due to rising temperatures, he has been experimenting with various Mediterranean grape varieties for years. François was so impressed with the results with Montepulciano and Nielluccio that he decided to create a unique blend.
He spontaneously ferments equal parts Montepulciano and Nielluccio, without the addition of sulfites. The wine ages for six months in concrete vats before being bottled. The Montepulciano imparts maturity and a soft structure, while the Nielluccio adds finesse and freshness.
Les Voyageurs is a fantastic, original red organic wine, made from surprising grape varieties, yet with the recognizable Mourgues du Grès signature of tension, freshness, and suppleness. Enjoy it on its own, or pair it with cured French or Italian meats. This 2020 vintage is the first vintage, but we're left wanting more!
Drinking at
A beautifully fruity, slightly spicy red wine to enjoy on its own or with a variety of dishes. Perfect with lasagna, pasta with game ragout, or oven-baked eggplant with tomato and cheese.
Tasting note
A youthful, purple-red wine with refined aromas of cherry, plum, blackcurrant, licorice, and juniper. The palate is full and smooth with pure fruit, refreshing acidity, and fine tannins. An elegant finish with notes of pepper and bay leaf.
