Description

After a long and successful winemaking career in California and the Languedoc, Laurent Delaunay was finally able to return to his roots in 2017 and repurchase his great-grandfather Edouard Delaunay's estate, restoring it to its former glory. Since then, he has dedicated himself to producing top-quality Burgundies, from surprising villages to superior Grands Crus.

The Septembre Chardonnay offers a fine introduction to the estate. Laurent's own grape selection process allows him to select Chardonnay grapes from diverse terroirs to create a refined, balanced wine. One-third of the grapes come from the Côte d'Or, specifically the Côte de Beaune – the heart of white Burgundy. Laurent harvests a third in the Mâconnais region, slightly further north. The final harvest takes place in the cooler Chablis region. This combination creates a perfect blend of elegance, ripe fruit, and refined freshness.

Once in the cellar, the team leaves nothing to chance. The grapes from the Côte d'Or undergo classic Burgundy vinification: fermentation and aging in oak barrels, with regular stirring of the yeasts. This gives the wine depth and complexity. The grapes from the Mâconnais and Chablis are partially vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fresh fruit notes.

And so Laurent, the winemaker, and the cellar master create a blend characteristic of the house's style. The Septembre is a delightful, accessible Burgundy Chardonnay, with a refined aroma, an elegant yet slightly creamy taste, and a beautiful finish. This introduction to Chardonnay à la Delaunay is well worth it.
