Description
After a long and successful winemaking career in California and the Languedoc, Laurent Delaunay was finally able to return to his roots in 2017 and repurchase his great-grandfather Edouard Delaunay's estate, restoring it to its former glory. Since then, he has dedicated himself to producing top-quality Burgundies, from surprising villages to superior Grands Crus.
The Septembre Pinot Noir is the entry-level red and offers a beautiful impression of the house's style. Laurent works closely with several highly regarded farmers in the region. He handles the harvest himself; the Pinot Noir for this red is even primarily harvested by hand.
Over a third of the grapes come from the renowned Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The rest come partly from Saône-et-Loire, partly from the more southerly Côte Chalonnaise, and partly from Beaujolais. This creates a perfect blend of Burgundian finesse, freshness, and fruitiness.
In the cellar, the grapes are rigorously sorted – only the finest quality is good enough. After cold maceration, fermentation, and pressing, approximately half of the wine is aged in oak barrels, the other half in stainless steel tanks.
It produces a beautiful, harmonious Burgundy Pinot Noir, with a lovely balance of elegant freshness, seductive red fruit, and ample structure. It's delicious on its own, or with roasted chicken or mushroom dishes, for example.
