Description

Chasse-Spleen means "chasing away melancholy" – and that's exactly what the wines from this renowned estate in Moulis-en-Médoc do! L'Oratoire is considered the estate's second wine.

It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%), and Petit Verdot (10%). The grapes come from the château's own vineyards, located on the famous Grand Poujeaux plateau. The characteristic gravelly clay soil with limestone provides the grapes with perfect fertile ground.

Once optimally ripe, they are hand-picked and rigorously sorted again in the cellar. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats, the wine matures in oak barrels, 5% of which are new.

The difference with the Grand Vin? The grapes come from vineyards that require more attention and/or are planted with younger vines. For this reason, L'Oratoire receives slightly less new oak. This makes it drinkable at a younger age than the Grand Vin and also more accessible in price.

A perfect introduction to this famous Bordeaux château – and from the very successful 2020 vintage, too! It seduces with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, and graphite, and a juicy, supple, and full-bodied palate. A perfect pairing with red meat or aged hard cheeses.
