Description

The Nebbiolo grape is responsible for Piedmont's great prestige. The famous Barolo owes its quality to this grape. One of the best Barolo producers is Conterno Fantino (99 points from WineSpectator, among others). They make a beautiful Nebbiolo Langhe, a wine for those who don't want to wait so long for a Barolo to mature, or who prefer to pay less for a wine with strong similarities in aroma and flavor. It's essentially a kind of second wine, made from the same grapes but in a slightly different way, resulting in a smaller version of Barolo. Lighter in flavor and less tannic, this Nebbiolo is otherwise very similar to the more famous wine.

Conterno-Fantino remains a leading exponent of the modern school of Barolo but today macerations are longer than normal casks have been added to French oak barriques and the wines are more polished than they have ever been.
