Tasting note Alvear Cream
Spanish red wine with the powerful aroma of nuts, currants, caramel, and candied fruit. The flavor is richly sweet. It pairs well with both pâté and candied fruit desserts.
Description
The southern Spanish wine region of Montilla-Moriles enjoys the reputation it deserves only among insiders. Most of the wine is sold to the numerous merchants in the nearby sherry region. This is perfectly legal, by the way, as the wine law in the sherry region also permits grapes or wines to originate from Montilla. The reason sherry bodegas buy in Montilla is the high quality of the Pedro Ximenez grape, which, thanks to the warmth, ripens much better here than in Jerez. A prime example is the cream from the top bodega Alvear. Made exclusively from PX grapes and blended from very sweet wine and dry Oloroso, an aged fino. The cream is aged for 10 years in 500-liter American oak barrels using the characteristic solera system.
