Description
Taylors Vintage Port Quinta de Vargellas 1996 is made from Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Naçional, Tinta Cão, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Amarela grapes. After an intensive maceration period, fermentation continues, allowing the alcohol content to increase. Once the wine reaches approximately 8% alcohol, the process is stopped by adding wine alcohol, and the juice is aged in oak barrels for approximately two years before being bottled.
Quinta de Vargellas is located deep in the Alto Douro, 176 kilometers east of Porto and forty kilometers from Pinhão, at an altitude ranging from eighty meters above sea level on the riverbank to 350 meters high on the hills. It covers 176 hectares, eighty of which are cultivated with vines arranged like a horseshoe along the riverbank.
