Tasting notes Michael Gassier Nostre Pais

Full red in color and creamy and powerful in scent, with, among other things, ripe cherries and berries and a hint of oak. The taste is full and powerful, but soft and persistent. Complex and intense red wine with mild tannin and lots of length.

Description

In the beautiful and smooth Nostre Païs you will find no less than five different specific South-French grape varieties: grenache, carignan, mourvèdre, cinsault and syrah. According to owner Michel Gassier, his red wine offers a distinctive terroir expression due to the low yield in the vineyard and the optimal maturity of the grape. Advisor and winemaker Philippe Cambie, with nicknames such as 'the Pope of Châteauneuf' and 'Monsieur Grenache', has put his stamp on this magnificent Rhône wine.

A small part of the wine ripens in oak barrels and the wine is bottled unfiltered. We do not make the comparison fast, but we write this with full conviction: the red Nostre Païs competes with a refined châteauneuf-du-pape! In a word: great. Gassier makes masterly copies for a fraction of the price.

The vineyard of Nostre Païs contains several similarities with those of the well-known quantities: the large boulders, the grape varieties and the poor soil. The microclimate is slightly different, with especially cooler nights, so that the grapes retain a little more freshness. Highly recommended!

Châteauneuf-du-pape is now one of the best wines in France for lovers worldwide. You can tell that about the price: in the meantime, a bottle of top quality costs at least thirty euros. But fortunately we have affordable alternatives for you from the same region, such as the costières de nîmes of the talented Michel Gassier. He works closely with Philippe Cambie, one of the best-known advisers to leading châteauneuf-du-pape producers such as Le Clos du Caillou.
