Tasting note Masseria Frattasi Taburno Falanghina
Southern Italian dry white wine made from the falanghina grape. Smells nice to apricot pineapple and toast. The taste is full and balanced: delicious with dishes with fish or fine veal.
Pasquale Clemente is the driving force of this small wine estate in the hills behind Naples near Benevento. He is farming in the village of Montesarchio in a biodynamic way. But because of the bureaucratic burden he refuses to request a certificate for this. A characteristic Italian attitude in our opinion!
Pasquale produces regional wines from, among others, fiano- greco- aglianico and falanghina grapes. His winery is a true pleasure haven for the adventurous wine lover who is looking for typicity and has an eye for the great cultural-historical values of this region. Pasquale is also a gifted winemaker and his wines are regularly in the prizes. At the end of 2013 the Italian wine writer Luca Maroni reviewed one of his red wines as Miglior Vino Rosso d'Italia 2014.
The falanghina is cloned from very old sticks and the current vineyard, located at an altitude of over 500 meters, is now an average of 45 years old.
In combination with the biodynamic way of working, this results in a low yield with concentrated grapes. The harvest only takes place in the second week of October. The hand-picked grapes are then quickly transported to the wine cellar for a modern temperature-controlled vinification. In combination with the coolness in the vineyard this makes wines with a delicious freshness despite their southern Italian origin. Looking for originality? Then try this falanghina from Frattasi!
