Tasting notes Huguenot Marsannay
French red wine with the scent of ripe cherry herbs and light oak. The taste is soft and elegant. Delicious with refined dishes with mushrooms, cream sauces and poultry.
Quality has its price, but a high price does not always guarantee (top) quality! That certainly applies in Burgundy. We are therefore proud of our discovery from Marsannay, the northernmost municipality of the Côte de Nuits. Here Philippe Huguenot makes a beautiful, refined red wine from grapes from organic vineyards.
Given the high quality, this wine is competitively priced. Obviously Philippe picks the grapes by hand, so that a first, strict selection takes place directly in the vineyard. As with any top company, he selects again when the grapes arrive at the cellar. Only the best grapes go to the yeast tubs. This does not happen with pumps, but via gravity. This prevents Huguenot from premature damage and oxidation of the grapes.
After the alcoholic fermentation in tanks, the second, so-called lactic fermentation, takes place in small oak barrels. In these barrels the wine ripens for about eighteen months. Philippe opts for one and two year old casks, so that not the oak, but the finesse and purity of the pinot noir are expressed.
Philippe Huguenot is currently regarded as the 'insider tip' in the Côte de Nuits and, thanks to the high quality of his wine, has a bright future ahead of him. Buy this beautiful harvest now and drink the wine at a special time.
