Information
By French and Spanish top winemaker Bertrand Sourdais
From 30-100 year old tempranillo sticks from Soria
Perfect with barbecued meat

A delicious Tempranillo

Deep red color with purple glow. Youthful and expressive in fragrance with floral nuances, ripe blackberry, plum and beautiful oak. Very pure, seductive and full of flavor with powerful, ripe tannins and good freshness. The finish is creamy, spicy and long. Delicious wine to drink on its own, or to combine with refined (meat) dishes, such as lamb fillet, seasoned tournedos and bean stew.

A combination of Chinon and Spain

Bertrand Sourdais grew up among the vines in Chinon, but was the first to make a name for himself as a winemaker in Spain. He now combines the best of both worlds with a winery in Chinon (Domaine de Pallus) and two in Ribera del Duero (Antídoto and Dominio de Es).

Sourdais is not a man of the beaten track. He makes his wines in Ribera del Duero in Soria, the most remote and difficult to access province in the region, sandwiched between two mountain ranges. The weather conditions are quite extreme, with the risk of hail and spring frosts. The plots with old sticks are scattered and at great heights. Not a wine region for large production, all the more for wines with character.

Bertrand harvests the tinto fino (the local name for the tempranillo grape) for this Antídoto predominantly in Soto de San Esteban, in no less than 550 different plots located at an altitude of 950 meters. The sticks are between thirty and a hundred years old and are planted on sandy pebble soils, which gives the wine aroma and smooth tannins.

After the manual picking, fermentation and maturation follow for eight months in barrels of French oak, of which 15% new. It gives an intense, characterful and elegant Ribera del Duero, which is smooth and fresh enough to drink as it is, but also full and powerful enough for the table.
