Description
What a stunning result from Bodegas Piqueras! This wonderfully sultry, ripe Syrah is part of the Valcanto series. While many Piqueras red wines are blended, owner and winemaker Juan Pablo Bonete seeks the finest expression of a single grape variety in this series.
He harvests the Syrah grapes in his high-altitude vineyards, approximately 700-800 meters above sea level. The vines are twenty-five to thirty years old and are planted on poor, limestone soils. The vineyards are farmed organically.
After the grapes are harvested at night to ensure they reach the cellar in the coolest and most untouched conditions possible, the grapes are macerated and fermented. Juan Pablo then ages the wine for six months in American oak barrels.
The result is a beautiful, full-bodied Syrah with an intense aroma of ripe dark fruit, seductive oak, and a smoky note. The palate is soft and supple, with a lingering aromatic finish. A delicious wine to pair with tapas, grilled meats, or aged cheeses, but also to enjoy on its own.
Drinking at
Full-bodied, ripe red wine that pairs well with richer stews, but also tastes delicious after a meal.
Tasting note
A full-bodied red wine with abundant, ripe black fruit, oak, and smoky nuances. The palate opens full and rounded, developing ripe, soft tannins with a fine, supple, and lingering finish.
