Description
We previously introduced you to the Casa Giona Pinot Grigio. The launch of this wine was so successful that we decided to introduce its red counterpart as well.
Expectations are even higher, since red wine is the specialty of this Veneto estate. While Amarone and Ripasso are very fine but also more expensive, this Riposato offers that seductive Veneto feel without the accompanying price tag.
It's made from local Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes, which are harvested late. The grapes are then left to dry for another thirty to forty days to further concentrate them. After fermentation, the wine is aged for two months in tanks and a year in large oak barrels. This results in a truly delicious red.
While the Riposato certainly doesn't have the complexity or concentration of Ripasso or Amarone, it does offer intensely ripe and dried fruit, a smooth, soft flavor, and a hint of toast from the oak aging. It's perfect as an aperitif or with lighter meals. And the price is certainly worth it.
Drinking at
An accessible, seductive red wine perfect for solo, aperitifs, or everyday dining. It pairs beautifully with stuffed portobello mushrooms with Parmesan, carpaccio, veal ragout, or mature hard cheeses.
Tasting note
Ruby-red wine with open aromas of cherry, raspberry, plum, and licorice. The palate is smooth and soft with jammy fruit, good freshness, and melted tannins. A mild and juicy finish with notes of laurel, raisins, and toast.
Shelf life
Ready to drink and easily kept for up to 7 years after harvest.
