Montalcino DOCG
The Brunello Filo di Seta is the top selection of Castello Romitorio and comes from a single vineyard near the castle. The vines are at a height of 350 meters, have a northwestern exposure and a low yield. The grapes are picked by hand and ferment in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine is aged for 30 months in small oak barrels. After bottling, this magnifique Brunello matures for another 12 months in the bottle.
Castello Romitorio in the famous Brunello di Montalcino is owned by the artist Sandro Chia, who bought the dilapidated azienda in 1984 to live there. He restored the buildings and planted sangiovese sticks on the surrounding slopes.
The vineyards are located in the cool, northwestern part of Brunello. This has turned out to be a major advantage because, unlike the warm south, the grapes ripen more slowly and longer. This is of crucial importance for the beautiful acids that characterize a great Brunello.
