Description
There is actually no wine in our assortment with which we can compare this striking, pure, and refined red Corsican. That is not surprising, as the Brama Sciaccarellu is made from the little-known indigenous Corsican grape variety Sciaccarellu, planted in a truly special vineyard.
Clos Venturi is the second estate of Corsican winemaker Manu Venturi, who also runs Domaine Vico. The vineyard covers about 28 hectares and is situated at an altitude of approximately 400 meters on a sandstone hill. Clos Venturi is surrounded by mountain peaks reaching up to 2,000 meters, creating a unique microclimate with continental freshness and Mediterranean warmth.
Here, Manu has planted various old Corsican grape varieties, including Sciaccarellu. This grape is the same as the Tuscan Mammolo and produces light-colored red wines and rosés with floral and fruity aromas. To keep the unique environment as intact and protected as possible, Manu has been farming Clos Venturi biodynamically for years.
Once beautifully ripe, Manu picks the grapes by hand and destems them in the cellar. Fermentation takes place using natural yeasts present on the grape in large vats and barriques. After fermentation, the wine ages for another fourteen to eighteen months in large vats.
And that results in a unique wine. The nose is refined, with notes of red fruit, pepper, and toast; the taste is pure, fresh, and refined, with subtle oak influence. A beautiful glass, highly recommended! And Brama? That means something like 'sigh', referring to the wind that is always palpable on the island.
