Description
Michel Caillot is a Burgundy winemaker of the old school. He doesn't have time for a website, but even more so for his vineyards and cellar. Michel makes various white and red Burgundies, but Meursault is his absolute specialty.
Michel makes this beautiful village cru from chardonnay grapes harvested in the La Barre Dessus vineyard. This vineyard is located close to the village of Meursault, just a stone's throw from the renowned Clos de la Barre vineyard. Although Domaine Caillot is not officially certified, Michel farms his vineyards completely organically.
Caillot's cellar is deep and cool. This ensures a long, gradual fermentation that takes place with the yeasts naturally present on the grapes. Michel is also in no hurry with the maturation: the wine rests for a year in oak barrels (only a small part of which are new) and another year in stainless steel tanks, or longer if he deems it necessary.
This slow, natural and traditional process produces complex, deep and well-integrated Burgundies with great aging potential. This also applies to this beautiful Clos Marguerite. A pure, refined Meursault, with notes of lemon zest and toast, tension and freshness, a salty touch and a long lasting aftertaste. Very nice!
Drink with
Beautiful, oak-aged white Burgundy to enjoy with refined dishes, such as salad with crab, paella with seafood, grilled sole with lima beans or young, hard cheeses.
Tasting note
Lemon yellow wine with a complex scent of candied lemon, peach, brioche, smoky oak and flint. Full and intense in taste with pure citrus fruit and lively fresh acidity. The finale is impressively long with notes of butter, toast and grapefruit.
Shelf life
At its best between 5 and 15 years after harvest date.
