Description
Winemakers like Rémi Branger and Gwénaëlle Croix convincingly demonstrate the potential of Muscadet. Their Domaine de la Pépière is considered by the press to be among the best in the region. Here, everything revolves around refinement, freshness, flavor length, and terroir expression, based on the philosophy of a biodynamic method with minimal intervention. And you can taste that in their wines.
The exceptional Briords cuvée comes from the eponymous vineyard, a mere three hectares high on a granite slope, situated on the banks of the Maine River. The vines, over 60 years old, have deep roots that provide ample water, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. The low yield of the old vines gives Briords a remarkable concentration, while maintaining a very modest alcohol content.
After being hand-picked, the wine ferments for a month in an underground tank and then matures there "sur lie" for another eight months. The Briords is in a class of its own, with wonderful tension, freshness, and refinement, and a clear characterization of the terroir. Stock up on this superb white wine in your fridge and cellar. And when you open it, serve it with a lovely platter of seafood.
Drinking at
A beautifully characterized Muscadet with fullness, freshness, and briny nuances. Wonderful with oysters, mussels with garlic and thyme, all kinds of fish dishes, or goat cheese.
Tasting note
A subtle, dry white wine with aromas of ripe apple, pear, peach, smoke, and almond. The palate is intense and layered with ripe fruit and good freshness. A lingering finish with brioche and salty notes.
