Description
After a long and successful winemaking career in California and the Languedoc, Laurent Delaunay was finally able to return to his roots in 2017 and repurchase his great-grandfather Edouard Delaunay's estate, restoring it to its former glory. Since then, he has dedicated himself to producing top-quality Burgundies, from surprising villages to superior Grands Crus.
This beautiful Premier Cru from Santenay is highly recommended for wine lovers looking for the best value in Burgundy. The region offers refined, expressive, and fruity red Burgundies that are slightly less well-known than the big names from the Côte de Nuits and therefore relatively affordable.
Premier Cru Beauregard is known for its wines of depth and complexity. This vineyard certainly has it all. The 60-year-old vines are planted halfway up the hill, at an altitude of around 260-300 meters. The limestone soil guarantees optimal water management. Moreover, no other vineyard in the area enjoys such ideal sun exposure.
Laurent harvests perfectly ripe, concentrated Pinot grapes here. Once in the cellar, they are completely destemmed. Fermentation takes place using natural yeasts present on the grapes. The wine is aged for a year in oak barrels, 20% of which are new.
This results in a characterful and very serious Santenay, with notes of perfectly ripe fruit and spices, an intense flavor, a powerful structure, and an impressive finish. A magnificent Premier Cru, with excellent aging potential.
