Lugana in its purest, original form
From the local Turbiana grape
Strikingly dry, refined, and uplifting

Description

Lugana is wildly popular. The small wine region on Lake Garda, which lies largely in Lombardy and to a very small extent in the Veneto, is producing more of the eponymous white wine than ever.

However, not all Luganas are the same. Many are made in a rounder, milder style, often with some residual sweetness. Not so this beautiful, distinctive example from Famiglia Olivini, one of the region's leading producers according to wine magazine Decanter.

The estate is located in San Martino della Battaglia, in the heart of Lugana in Lombardy. There, Giorgio, Giordana, and Giovanni Olivini produce exquisite, terroir-driven wines—following in their parents' footsteps. They cultivate the vineyards with calcareous clay soils in a sustainable manner. In the cellar, they take a minimalist approach so that the wines can express their origin and vintage as much as possible.

This white is their very convincing calling card. The grapes are hand-picked in the historic heart of the appellation and rigorously selected. After gentle pressing, fermentation follows at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks.

The result is a refined, dry, invigoratingly fresh white wine with notes of citrus fruit and a beautiful smoky touch. This is Lugana as Lugana was once meant to be. Drink it as an original aperitif, or serve it with poached fish, asparagus, or even poultry or veal.
