Description
With quality wines like those from the two progressive Greeks, Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos, Greece deserves your attention. Their renowned winery, Gaia Wines, is located in the Nemea wine region on the Peloponnese peninsula. Wine has been produced here since 500 BC.
Grown on the higher-elevation plots near the village of Koutsi, the local, late-ripening red grape Agiorgitiko retains its freshness, creating a lovely tension in the wine. Six months of aging in oak barrels then provides a beautiful finish to the aroma and flavor.
The Agiorgitiko is a seductively aromatic and well-balanced red wine that will undoubtedly appeal to lovers of fine Tuscan wines, for example. Pair this beautiful Greek red with grilled meat or pasta with mushrooms, and serve it at 15 to 17°C for the best experience.
Drinking at
Excellent with grilled beef or pork.
Tasting note
A bright red wine with fresh red fruit like cherries and berries and a hint of oak in the aroma. The palate has a smooth structure, fresh acidity, and mild tannins in the finish.
Shelf life
Ready to drink now, but will easily keep for up to four to five years after harvest.
