Description

Viticulture is nothing new in Utiel-Requena. It has been happening since the seventh century BC. Yet today the region in the west of the province of Valencia is once again in the spotlight for its contemporary, fresh and juicy wines.

You can make them here - despite the warm, continental climate - because of the cooling influence of the Mediterranean Sea and the higher location of the vineyards, on a plateau of 600-900 meters. The relatively dry conditions also make the region extremely suitable for organic viticulture.

The Elvia Rosado is a good example of such a fine organic wine from Utiel-Requena. It is made by Luis Miguel Calleja, from the local star grape bobal. After the harvest, Luis Miguel soaks the grapes briefly in the juice and then presses them very carefully, because the skin of bobal contains quite a bit of color. The fermentation and short maturation take place in stainless steel tanks, in order to preserve the fruitiness.

The result is a beautiful, light pink colored wine bursting with raspberry and strawberry fruit. The invigorating acidity is due to the natural freshness of the bobal grape. Drink it on its own or with light Mediterranean dishes such as tapas or seafood. Also recommended for a drink or a party.

Tasting note

Juicy, full rosé with an aroma of fresh red fruit and slightly spicy nuances. The taste is full, round and has a lingering aftertaste.
