Domaine Bouard-Bonnefoy Burgundy Aligoté 2019

Domaine Bouard-Bonnefoy is purveyor to Burgundy icon Pierre-Yves Colin Morey and also makes a small amount of pure, precise white Burgundy. Chassagne-Montrachet is their specialty, but the family also makes several wonderful other cuvées, such as this Aligoté.

Aligoté is often dismissed as 'the other white Burgundy grape' and does not enjoy the reputation of the much more famous chardonnay. However, Fabrice Bouard and his daughter Clara prove that you can make amazingly beautiful white Burgundy from aligoté.



They harvest the grapes on four plots in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. After fermentation, they age the wine in oak barrels for 12 months, using light bâtonnage (stirring the yeasts).

The end result is a beautiful white Burgundy, with notes of citrus and ripe apple, fresh acidity, minerality, creaminess and toast. Drink this classic white wine as a luxurious aperitif, whether or not accompanied by a platter of charcuterie or a plate of oysters. Also delicious with a fruit de mer plateau or a nice fish dish.

Beautiful white Burgundy to drink on its own or in combination with a refined fish dish, such as fried brill, turbot or sole with cauliflower cream.

Beautiful, dry white wine with a refined fragrance expression of ripe apple, pear, peach and smoky oak. Juicy and creamy in taste with yellow fruit and a balanced freshness. The final is lingering with toast and fine bitters of lemon zest.
