Description

The impressive Cuesta del Herrero comes from Pago Aylés, located near Zaragoza. Pago is the exclusive Spanish quality label for individual producers, comparable to the French Grand Cru classification. The main requirements are that only their own grapes may be used and that the wines must be of top quality.

Aylès winemaker Jorge Navascues produces a full-bodied, spicy red wine made primarily from Garnacha and Tempranillo. The climate is extremely continental, with warm summers and significant nighttime cooling. The organically grown grapes are harvested at night, ensuring they arrive cool and in peak condition at the cellar. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in small French oak barrels.

Yet, it's not so much the oak that defines this beautiful red wine from Aragon; that's primarily due to the high-altitude vineyards and the Garnacha grape. It has a rich, full-bodied, yet refreshing flavor that pairs perfectly with spicy dishes like grilled meats and stews. Connoisseurs already know: beautiful Spanish Garnacha from old vineyards can be found in Aragon.
