| Charming Chenin from Swartland | |
| Ripe, juicy fruit and a touch of toast | |
| Delicious aperitif wine that leaves you wanting more |
Description
The Van Niekerk winemaking couple isn't just pushing the boundaries in a figurative sense. These pioneers from Piekenierskloof make superb wines from grapes grown in Piekenierskloof and the neighboring Swartland region. Take, for example, this exceptionally charming Chenin Blanc.
While Swartland was once primarily known for its wheat production, today it is a booming wine region. The winemakers are adventurous and innovative, and the wines are rich and intensely fruity. The warm and dry climate offers a dual advantage: it produces ripe, highly flavorful grapes, which, thanks to the low risk of rot and mold, are also in perfect health.
The grapes from Piekenierskloof are a wonderful addition: thanks to the slightly cooler location of the vineyards, the grapes retain more freshness and aroma. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are crushed. Jaco and Cerina use only the "free-run juice" (the juice that is released without pressing). Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures for another five months on the fine yeasts.
This creates a wonderfully mild, juicy South African Chenin with notes of tropical fruit and a touch of spice. Easy to drink, versatile, and yet always surprising: in our opinion, this is the ideal aperitif and house wine!
Drinking at
Ideal to drink as an aperitif, or to serve with light dishes and salads with fish or chicken.
Tasting note
A pale yellow wine with refined aromas of peach, mandarin, and toast. A beautifully fruity palate with delicious juiciness and balanced freshness. The finish is dry and medium-length with delicate grapefruit bitters.
