Description

Cristian Seely, also responsible for several famous châteaux in Bordeaux, is a man with a mission: to demonstrate that the Douro terroir is exceptionally well-suited for producing world-class red wine that can rival, for example, Bordeaux, Burgundy, or the Rhône in terms of quality.

That is why Seely and winemaker Carlos Agrellos produce not only a beautiful range of Ports at Quinta da Romaneira, but an equally magnificent series of red wines. To this end, the two have the perfect terroir at their disposal: all the historic, steep terraced vineyards along the meandering Douro River are classified as Class A, the highest classification in the Douro.

The Sino da Romaneira is made entirely in the style of the famous Cru Classé Bordeaux as Romaneira's second wine. The blend consists of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Tinto Cão. The grapes ferment for five to six days in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-28 degrees. After fermentation, the wine ages for ten months in oak barrels.

This ensures that the Sino remains fruitier and more accessible at a younger age than its big brother, Quinta da Romaneira. With its dark, juicy fruit and notes of spice, the Sino is an elegant yet structured Douro that tastes perfect with a piece of grilled red meat, for example. And its name? The wine derives it from the bell (sino) hanging on the estate's entrance gate.
