Description
While Rías Baixas may be the best-known wine region in Galicia, Ribeiro is the oldest appellation in the region and, in fact, one of the first in all of Spain to be recognized with DO status. Ribeiro excels particularly in white wines made from local grapes such as Treixadura, Godello, Albariño, Loureiro, and Lado.
This beautiful Varietal from the modern family estate Ramón do Casar is a blend of Treixadura, Albariño, and Godello and captures the essence of Ribeiro in a bottle. The wine is also the house's calling card. The grapes grow in their own vineyards in Castrelo de Miño, on poor, granite soils.
They are harvested by hand and processed separately by plot in the wine cellar. After destemming and cool fermentation, a short maturation with the yeasts follows. Finally, the individual barrels are blended and the wine is bottled.
This results in a magnificent white Ribeiro, with a seductive aroma of stone fruit and honey, and a characteristic ripe, full, and soft, yet invigoratingly fresh taste. A wine with character and a true Spanish specialty.
And the beautiful label? It depicts the emigration from Galicia in the 1940s and 50s. This is also the story of Ramón Gonzalez, the mastermind behind this remarkable winery. He emigrated to Venezuela in 1955 and eventually returned to finally realize his dream. He bought the country; his son Xabier did the rest.
Drinks with
A delicious, dry white wine to drink on its own and gastronomically versatile. Excellent with mussels Flemish style, squid with arugula and lime, prawn and parsnip tempura, or soft cheeses.
Tasting note
Light lemon-yellow wine with a refined aroma of white flowers, quince, peach, and nectarine. Intensely juicy with pure fruit and an invigorating freshness. The finish is elegant and persistent.
