Tasting note Domaine Loew Alsace
Aromatic white wine with the scent of flowers and a little nutmeg. The taste is soft and full. The classic Alsatian aperitif but also great with oriental dishes and freshwater fish.
Fortunately, thanks to producers - such as the enthusiastic Etienne Loew - there is an 'Alsace revival'. The oenologist graduated in Dijon took over the wine business from his parents in Westhoffen in 2006, stopped selling grapes to the cooperative and switched to organic wine growing. This distinguishes him from many other Alsace producers who drive the harvest per vine to the maximum and compensate for the loss of flavor concentration with residual sweetness. A lucky accident is that his father had planted vines on steep. Slopes difficult to work that were not even suitable for cheap mass production. They yielded too little to live on and that is why the domain was a mixed company with livestock and fruit production. Etienne firmly believes that the quality of the wine is 100% decided in the vineyard and his goal is to let the terroir speak as much as possible. This is one of the reasons why he switched to biodynamic viticulture in 2009. The technical knowledge of 'oenologist' Etienne guarantees a pure vinification in the cellar and he is one of the 'secret tips' of Alsace. His base wine is an assemblage of muscat gewurztraminer riesling and pinot gris and is entitled to the name 'Gentil' which is superior to the 'Edelzwicker' because the latter may contain a larger part of neutral chasselas and pinot blanc. It is a very typical Alsatian with aromatic intensity and a long-lasting taste.
