Description
The Sumeire family, known for the beloved Cabaret Rosé, is already regarded as one of the historic and leading wine producers of Provence. To become even better, the family is undertaking the next large-scale leap in quality.
Whereas the Cabaret was an assemblage of grapes harvested from different terroirs, brother and sister Olivier and Sophie Sumeire – who together represent the eighth generation – are shifting the focus towards more terroir-driven wines. They are doing this by producing wines exclusively from their three châteaux in Provence: Château l'Afrique, Château Maupage, and Château Coussin.
The latter is located near Trets and Mont Sainte-Victoire. Here, the Sumeires produce, among other things, the refined La Croix du Prieur Rosé. They harvest the grapes in a thirty-year-old vineyard with a soil of limestone and clay, planted with Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah vines.
Once in the cellar, the juice ferments at a cool temperature after pressing to preserve as many of the refined fruit notes as possible. This has undoubtedly been achieved. The La Croix du Prieur is a beautiful salmon-pink color, has a refined aroma of strawberry and peach, and possesses a lovely dry, fruity, slightly spicy taste. A very pleasant rosé that is perfect as an aperitif or on the terrace, as well as at the table.
