A fresh, dry, and juicy white wine from South Africa with citrus and currant aromas. Delicious as an aperitif but also excellent with cold or hot fish dishes.

Stellenbosch

The crisp white Sauvignon grape thrives in a relatively cool and temperate climate. Think of the great white wines of the Loire Valley in northern France. Winemakers in warm regions therefore seek out cooler locations. This can be achieved by planting higher-elevation plots in hilly terrain, or—as with De Morgenzon in South Africa—by moving to the coast. In this case, the vineyards are located on the west coast.

The cold ocean water moderates the vineyards, resulting in naturally fresh acidity. The grapes are also hand-picked in the morning and then fermented at a low temperature. This is how winemaker Carl van der Merwe succeeds in creating a vibrant, crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc of excellent quality in the warm South African climate.
