The Medina Rosé that you should not miss

The summer rosé: light salmon pink in color and delicately fruity in scent with nuances of ripe fruits and herbs. Very suitable as an aperitif but also delicious with cold starters, barbecue and fish.

Ripe fruits & wonderfully spicy

Provençal rosé is becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands. Sara Román, the winemaker of Castelo de Medina in Rueda, has also noticed this. This very competent graduate 'oenologist' was the winner of the major Mundus Vini wine competition in 2013: her verdejo was declared the best Spanish white wine.

A maker of good white wine is usually also able to create high-level rosé because the vinification is very similar. This certainly applies to Sara who makes a rosé in Provencal style.

In Spain, light salmon pink shades for rosé are virtually unknown, but the Grenache grapes from Rueda are ideal for this. A direct soft pressing of this blue grape variety gives the same salmon-colored hue as in Provence.

Compared to this, the Castelo tastes a bit juicier and creamier than the French original. Thanks to the influence of the Ruedaterroir, it has not become a copy: this Spanish rosé has its own character. Sara and her team turned it into a beautiful wine and were rewarded with a gold medal at the Lyon International Wine Competition.
