Tasting note Michel Gassier
A dry white wine from the South of France with aromas of apple toast and flowers. The flavor is powerful and pairs well with freshwater fish, poultry, or pork.
Description
The white wine from Nostre Païs shares the same flavor profile as the rare white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In winemaking, less is more!
Gassier therefore selects his oldest vines—Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette, and Bourboulenc—grape varieties that naturally have low yields. Immediately after fermentation, approximately half of the harvest is aged for six months in small oak barrels. The other half retains its freshness in large tanks, giving the final blend a refined oak dosage.
In our opinion, this is a magnificent, southern Rhône wine that is impressive and distinctive both with and without food. Sommeliers are fond of it for its wide culinary applications, creating the most beautiful pairings with classic French dishes, such as lobster or fish in cream sauce.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape has become one of France's finest wines for wine lovers worldwide. This is reflected in the price: a top-quality bottle now costs at least thirty euros. Fortunately, we have affordable alternatives from the same region, such as the Costières de Nîmes from the talented Michel Gassier. He works closely with Philippe Cambie, one of the most renowned advisors to leading Châteauneuf-du-Pape producers like Clos de Caillou.
Forty kilometers from the famous wine region, Gassier creates masterful copies for a fraction of the price. The Nostre Païs vineyard shares several similarities with those of these renowned giants: the large stones, the grape varieties, and the poor soil. The microclimate differs slightly, with cooler nights, which allows the grapes to retain a little more freshness. Highly recommended!
