Old Vines Garnacha
Deep red in color, exuberant aroma with blackberry, light oak, and some roasted coffee notes. The flavor begins round, soft, and aromatic; the finish is spicy and smooth.
Juan Pablo Bonete at his best
Juan Pablo Bonete excels in the lesser-known Almansa with this full-bodied, smooth, and accessible red wine. It's made from Garnacha grapes from vines that are on average fifty years old.
The high-altitude vineyard is cultivated without irrigation, which is quite unusual in this dry and hot part of Spain. The vines are not tied up and are kept low: so-called "bush vines," or "cepas de vaso" in Spanish.
This keeps the yield low, and the small grapes retain their flavor concentration and freshness. After hand-picking, alcoholic fermentation takes place in large tanks. The second fermentation and aging of approximately eight months take place in 300-liter American oak barrels. The oak influence is subtle and well-balanced, with notes of ripe fruit dominating. A great success!
